In 1890, Frederick and Dorothea immigrated from Germany to America along with their children August and Wilhelm, aboard the Augusta Victoria. They departed from Hamburg, Germany and arrived in New York on 17 Apr 1890. Before their departure, they had lived in Glaisin, Mecklenburg, Germany. Although, Wilhelm passed away sometime after their arrival, they went on to have eleven children.

By 1900, the family had made their way to Primghar, O’Brien County, Iowa. Sadly, in 1907, they lost another child, Johanna to an illness and she was buried in the St. John Cemetery in Germantown, O’Brien County, Iowa. Over the next twenty-five years, Frederick and Dorothea and their children moved back and forth between Belvidere, Jackson County, South Dakota and the Primghar area.

On 12 Jun 1926, Dorothea passed away and was buried in the Germantown cemetery. And on 9 Apr 1937, Frederick was laid to rest in the same cemetery as his wife and daughter.
